Yarding: 18,050. Change: up 6450. Lambs: 12,900. Change: up 4850. Sheep: 5150. Change: up 1600.
Numbers increased by approximately 6450 head as dry conditions continue across the supply area and the outlook for rain not favourable for producers. The quality was mixed, with all weights and grades on offer, with again more well finished supplementary fed lambs offered.
All regular processors were present, however, not all operating fully in a cheaper market across all categories.
Some regular domestic processors left the sale prior to completion and there were a number of pens passed in.
Light weight lambs weighing 12-18kg eased $12, going to the processors from $88 to $128/head. There was a good offering of lambs suiting the restockers and feeder buyers, with the better lambs to the restocker making from $116 to $140, as the lambs going to the feed sold from $100 and $129/head. There was a good supply of shorn trade lambs again, although the buyers didn’t go that extra mile, resulting in prices easing $10 to $11/head across this category. Light and medium trades sold from $125 to $155, with the heavy trade making from $140 and $164/head.
Well finished heavy lambs suiting the export and domestic processors also eased $11, making from $160 to $170, as the extra heavy export lambs, due to the lack of orders, took a big hit, decreasing up to $25 in places to make from $168 to $200/head, averaging 619c/kg cwt. A few good hoggets were offered today, with the tops making $147/head. Overall, it was a good quality yarding of mutton, although despite this the market decreased up to $36/head in places. Medium weight 2 and 3 score ewes sold from $58 to $125/head. The best of the Merino 4 score ewes made to $140 and heavy cross bred ewes were firm to $2 back, receiving from $101 to $140/head.

Thursday, March 4. Yarding: 29,000. Change: down 3000.
Despite numbers declining, the market lost some traction over trade and export categories. Dry and hot conditions continue to put supply pressure on direct to abattoirs, with processors using physical markets to make up any shortfall in supply. It was a mixed yarding for trade and lighter weight lambs, with plenty of trade weights dry and requiring more finish. Restockers activity ramped considerably, with plainer types attracting stronger competition.
