Regional manager Andrew Cottrill said an infrastructure co-ordination authority, sponsored and funded by the NSW Government with federal support, should be established with a key priority being to make recommendations on infrastructure planning and delivery.
The installation of south-facing ramps at Davey Road has been on Albury Council's radar for a decade, but has not been able to line-up support funding from the state and federal governments.
"We simply cannot continue to see jobs creating projects such as this delayed due to the offset funding cycle or lack of government prioritisation," Mr Cottrill said.
"In the meantime we have potential investors turned off and hundreds of heavy vehicles and log trucks driving through suburban areas.
"Without some degree of co-ordination, projects such as the Davey Road interchange will see multi-year delays, or worse still may never be completed."
Farrer MP Sussan Ley said her office had been briefed on Mr Cottrill's proposal this week.
"I definitely think it is an idea worth exploring," she said.
"The chamber is going to provide me more details and then we can work out what could be the best path forward.
"The Commonwealth committed to fund a share in Davey Road in 2015, and I’m confident that can happen again but through a more specific road funding program.”
Ms Ley has instigated a meeting between council and the minister responsible for the heavy vehicle safety and productivity program.
Council representatives will meet with assistant minister for roads and transport, Scott Bucholz, during the upcoming budget week in Canberra.
