Senior women's Star Player Bridget McDiarmid found the back of the net twice, as did Jill Scott, with Kat Mitchell and new recruit Sophia Evans also scoring.
City led 2-0 at the break and accelerated from there, with Mitchell, Scott, Evans and McDiarmid all firing.
Melrose pegged one back late through Mel Wilson.
City goalkeeper Brogan Broadway was pleased with the effort, especially given the hot conditions.
"The girls did really well considering we only had one on the bench for most of the game," she said.
"We had a few girls that had never played a senior match before and ran out the full 90 minutes.
"The last goal that snuck through was a little annoying, but when you've got girls literally out on their feet, it was going to happen."

Evans looks to be a genuine star of the competition and will no doubt cause havoc for opposing sides.
"We picked her up through the university and she's been an awesome addition," Broadway added.
"She's a really smart player through the middle and up front, she moves the ball really well."
In the weekend's other game, Albury United scored a 4-1 victory against Iannotta Cup champions St Pats at Alexandra Park.
Wangaratta and Boomers had the bye.
The ladder after round one is: Albury City 3, Albury United 3, Boomers 3, Wangaratta 3, St Pats 0, Melrose 0.
