The Mornington based Ambitious was set to run in Sydney last weekend but was a scratching due to the heavy track.
Freedman racing manager, Brad Taylor, said the stable was planning a hit and run mission on the $180,000 feature.
"The Albury Cup is the right option for him and hopefully it's a confidence booster for him as he hasn't saluted here in Australia yet," Taylor said.
"Hopefully he can get a win on the board and that will boost his confidence a bit and we can go back to Sydney and if the tracks are dry he can be competitive in the big races.
"He is not a wet tracker and that's why we brought him back to Albury and then he will go back to Sydney.
"He will tackle some of the bigger races over the carnival when the tracks dry out a bit."
If successful, Ambitious will have to set modern day weight carrying record and become the first galloper to lump 62-kilograms to victory.
Taylor said Ambitious deserved the huge impost after racing against superior horses including recent Australian Cup winner Harlem.
"Yeah our horse has got a big weight but he deserves it with his form lines," he said.
"The club told me he is the highest ever runner to go around in the race.
"It's always difficult carrying those type of weights but he is always used to carrying around 59kg's in his races.
"He is certainly not taking on the likes of Avilius, Homesman, Comin' Through and those type of talented horses.
"He was beaten a length by Almandin this time last year."
In a scary proposition for his rivals, Taylor believed Ambitious was a far superior horse the NSW way of going.
"We believe he is a horse that goes better right-handed," he said.
"The big Albury track will suit him down to the ground."
