AFL North East Border is hosting a come and try umpiring session at Xavier High School on Thursday night.
Budding umpires can take on roles in field, boundary or goal, with full training provided by current AFL NEB umpires.
"We're hoping that will get a few to come in and have a try at any of the disciplines," senior umpire Graeme Mathewson said.
"There's no set agenda for what you can or can't do.
"If we can pick 20 or 30 umpires up out of that, it would be a sensational effort for us and make it worthwhile.
"We need about 76 to 80 umpires each week on the field alone, without doing goals or boundaries.
"We're stretched week in, week out, so another 20 or 30 in the field and the same number in other disciplines is going to help us immensely as we go along."
