Her family's feather-light sponge cake is the one of which she is most proud.
The recipe, which has been published in the The Australian Women's Weekly magazine, has now appeared in the newly-released Farmer cookbook.
Thurgoona-based Lonnie was the The Women's Weekly Test Kitchen manager for four years before she was recruited for the first season of ground-breaking Australian cookery competition Ready Steady Cook, working with George Calombaris, Manu Feildel, Alastair McLeod and Janelle Bloom.
Growing up at Corowa, Lonnie has many fond childhood memories of staying at her grandparents' farm.
"Mornings on the farm meant rising early to help my nan light the wood stove to cook a breakfast of porridge topped with cream, that had been separated that morning from fresh milk straight from the cow yard," Lonnie said.
Lonnie's nan, Gladys Wood, taught her how to cook in her wood stove, using recipes that were handwritten in a recipe book that had been passed down through the generations.
"Whether it was a cake for afternoon tea, a Sunday roast or baking for the shearers, there was always a great lesson to be learnt in her kitchen."
Proceeds after printing from Farmer cookbook go directly to farmers affected by the drought.
