Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation provide webcams to John Hunter Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Brett and Erin Pople say technology installed in John Hunter Children's Hospital by Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation were a "saving grace" while their newborn twins received treatment.
The building society's charitable arm installed webcams on each of the cribs in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit over 2017 and 2018. The cameras allow parents to watch their babies from a phone or computer.
The twins, from Cessnock in the NSW hunter region, were born nine weeks premature in November and had to remain in hospital for six weeks after Ms Pople was discharged.
"It was very distressing to get in the car and drive that hour home," Ms Pople said. "It was probably the most disturbing, distraught feeling I have ever had."
She said the webcams "have been sanity" for the family.
"You can't hold them but you can see them and see that they are okay," she said.
The foundation is highlighting its previous projects to promote the next round of funding, worth $800,000.
Applications for the next round close on May 6.
