The 33-year-old allegedly took the victim and detained him before driving him to a house in Lavington on January 19.
It's alleged the man at the home was assaulted, intimidated and had his phone stolen.
Charges allege the offending was linked to a search for the offender's ex-partner, and that the offender had intended to intimidate those involved.
Albury Local Court heard forensic tests are yet to be conducted on the hammer.
An intervention order was extended on Thursday.
The 35-year-old is in custody at Junee and appeared via video link.
The matter will return to court on May 14.
