BO: The Ovens and Murray is playing two games before round one this season. What do you think of that idea?
SH: I think it's great for the league. Both games are getting a lot of exposure and, having only one game in two towns, is a good idea as well. I'm sure they will both be really good games.
BO: Are you looking forward to playing last year's premier in Wangaratta first-up?
SH: It will be good seeing where we are at. It's a great opportunity to test ourselves against the best. We've drawn the short straw though haven't we (laughs).
BO: There's been a lot of player movement over the off-season, how have the Roos fared?
SH: We've got Jess Bice, that will be awesome and she'll be down in the shooting end with Grace Senior from North, who's a really handy a pick up. She's the best shooter in the league which is awesome and she's a grouse chick as well. And Jenny Barrett from Thurgoona who's got plenty of finals experience and is also a great chick to have around the club. We're very lucky and have also picked up girls in other grades, so feeling good.
BO: You guys had a camp this year and a pretty good pre-season, talk us through some of the things did for your pre-season in 2019.
SH: We had a few training sessions before Christmas, nothing compulsory, which was good just to get some faces around, and then got back into it in the new year. We've been doing a lot of plays. Because we have a lot of new girls we've been focusing on set ups, which has been really good. Obviously we had the Thursday night comp at J.C. King which was good to try and sweep the cobwebs away before round one, which was nice. The camp Georgie ran, which was out at one of the girl's farms, I didn't get to go, but from all accounts it was a ripper day.
BO: Talk us through the J.C. King Park pre-season comp. How important is that for you guys as far as your season preparations?
SH: I think it's been amazing having it the past couple of years. Especially, I think, a lot of the teams will appreciate it having new players and mixing up their teams to try to get new combinations. You're coming in with good form because you've already thrown the cobwebs out in these pre-season games. It's quality opposition each week and it's good, it keeps your mind off going to training for those six weeks leading up to round one.
BO: Who do you think, other than Corowa-Rutherglen, we're going to see movement from in regards to the ladder?
SH: I think Wangaratta Rovers are flying under the radar this pre-season and I think I would never knock them out. I think they're just chipping away quietly in Wang. We always have a tough game against them, so I wouldn't be surprised if they step up a few spots. Also probably Yarra, they have a really young team but always manage to find themselves in finals.
