Roads and Maritime Services said the highway at Sweetwater Bridge would continue to operate at one lane with a reduced speed limit of 80 km/h.
The two northbound lanes were closed on Thursday night following the incident, where a 63-year-old man died after his Mazda utility was hit by a B-double.
The crash occurred two kilometres south of another fatal collision in the southbound lanes of the highway on Thursday morning.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Roads and Maritime Services has re-opened one of the northbound lanes after a bridge inspection found no major structural damage, but identified that the barrier rail needed replacing," the authority said in a statement.
RMS was now looking into the scope of work and repair options.
"At this stage, it is not known how long this will take," it said.
"Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of electronic message signs and traffic control.
"Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this time."
