The former Sunraysia league medallist didn't play late last year, opting instead to finish with Group 20 rugby league club Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United.
"He's a clean touch player, but his tackling and pressure efforts are his forte," coach Damian Sexton said.
McAuley, Barooga duo Billy Andrew and Will Gorman and under 18 grand final players Ned Mullins and Jack Sexton are the Pigeons' newcomers.
Midfielder Sexton is the 17-year-son of the second-year coach.
But the biggest news for the Pigeons is the return of a fully fit Mark Whiley after a broken hand destroyed last year.
"Mark Whiley and (fellow midfielder) Matt Gorman have had fantastic pre-seasons," Sexton said.
"Mark is a super athlete and he trains accordingly, he's a great role model."
