Woolworths, the department store's owner, confirmed this week plans to shut 30 stores across Australia.
It declined to name which outlets were on the chopping block, but a list of endangered Big Ws circulated in an article in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald did not contain Lavington.
On Friday the real estate firm which manages Lavington Square indicated it had no evidence the Big W that opened in 1979 would close down.
Knight Frank Wagga Wagga partner Jill Toohey said: "Big W has been a successful long standing retailer in the Lavington Square shopping centre and we have not been advised of any intention to close this location."
Big W also has stores at Wangaratta and Wagga and those locations were not on the published list.
