Mayor Anna Speedie said about 20 per cent of the city's population volunteer.
"We know a lot of people in our community volunteer tirelessly for a number of organisations including community groups, schools and charities," she said.
"Some volunteer to contribute or give back to the community, others as part of their studies, to get some experience that may lead to employment, to socialise or network, or as part of their workplace.
"We want to recognise them and their wonderful work, and hopefully inspire others to think about volunteering."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Nominations have been extended until April 15.
Winners of all categories will be announced at the Volunteer Fair on May 25.
