The Coalition's two terms in power certainly stand out for their turmoil, for the Liberals and Nationals' fighting amongst themselves.
But what you can actually pin down as significant policy direction, in articulating and arguing for and actually showing the political will and gumption and courage to implement is far, far harder to grasp.
And while that circus has been performed, its players chock full of equal parts ignorance and an apparent simply-don't-really-care attitude towards ordinary Australians, we have witnessed a total lack of action on climate change.
MORE LOCAL NEWS:
It seems absurd that this election will be played-out with the incumbents still lacking a national energy policy that is both visionary and pragmatic.
And Labor has no right to feel smug on that score either, having rendered itself equally incompetent during its terms from 2007 because of the tragedy of the Rudd-Gillard musical chairs routine.
And that is a genuine, comprehensive attempt to both deliver water to the people who actually feed our nation while cognisant of the need for environmental flows.
Labor is no better; in fact, it is threatening to do far worse by catering to the (again, ignorant) whims of city voters who falsely believe farmers are stealing all the water.
It beggars belief.
This is merely one small story of the many that voters demand to be clearly, intelligently addressed.
But what might actually be played out is far different, with the nation served-up yet another shouting match where dog-whistling and fear-mongering and politically convenient untruths dominate.
It could well be a very long and frustrating five weeks for us all.
