The Saints hosted another night game after last year's initiation and it proved a winner on a relatively balmy night for mid-April with a strong crowd watching the club's resurrection.
Ryley Sharp booted six goals and recruit Tom Ellard another four, while Lachie Dale and coach Jake Sharp kicked three apiece.
The gritty Bulldogs applied enormous pressure in the first quarter as the Saints edged to a three-point lead.
It was still only 21 at half-time, before the home team kicked 11 goals to one.
