The Cats went back to their starting line-up at the final change and it paid dividends with defenders Sam Godde and Jamie Sandilands leading the way.
Goal attack Lily Buckingham also turned in a solid performance.
"It was a contested and hard game to play," co-coach Emily Browne said.
"It's been a good start to the year, hopefully we can keep it going."
Rutherglen has won its opening three matches and take on fellow contender Kiewa-Sandy Creek after the Easter break.
Thurgoona impressed in defeating Barnawartha 50-35.
Kiewa-Sandy Creek accounted for Dederang-Mt Beauty 37-25, Mitta United defeated Wahgunyah 46-38, Wodonga Saints blitzed Beechworth 63-30 and Yackandandah overpowered Tallangatta 40-33.
