A MAN who works in the horse racing industry has avoided a conviction after being caught midway through a line of cocaine at the Albury races.

Brett Anthony Scott faced Albury Local Court on Monday, charged with possessing cocaine and self administering the drugs.
The 23-year-old was caught in the toilets at the Albury Gold Cup on March 22, midway through snorting the drug off a mobile phone.
Scott, who lives with his mother on Racecourse Road, came to police attention when they heard sniffing coming sounds in the toilets.
Officers had been conducting high visibility patrols of the racecourse about 7pm.
Police said they were conducting a check of the toilets and heard the sniffing noises.
"Police looked under one of the cubicles and observed two pairs of legs, indicating that there were two males inside the cubicle," the court heard.
"Police have heard what sounded like further sniffing noises and have looked over the cubicle.
"Police have observed as the accused was holding a mobile phone which had what appeared to be a white substance on it.
"Police further observed as the accused was inhaling the white substance through his nasal cavity."
The officers knocked on the toilet door and the pair got out, and were told they would be searched, with 0.8 grams of cocaine found on Scott.

Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim read references tendered on his behalf.
The court heard he had not been charged any offences in the past, and the magistrate noted he had a bright future ahead of him in the racing industry.
"I'm minded to give you the opportunity to have a clean record," Mr Abdul-Karim said, and released Scott on a 12-month order.
