The match was realistically over early in the third term when the visitors opened a six-goal break, before the Pigeons fought back in the final quarter.
"We set ourselves to be up for them especially in the first quarter, but we just didn't achieve that," Yarrawonga coach Damian Sexton said.
"Over the last three games, we've played one really good quarter each time."
The Pigeons have now lost three straight games, just the second time it's happened since 2009.
Dale was dynamic, kicking four goals, while big man Ryley Sharp booted five as the smaller Pigeons couldn't handle him or ruckman Tom McDonagh.
Defender Nathan Laracy was strong, while Tom Ellard and Hugh Wales impressed.
Pigeon Tim McAuley played well, while Will Gorman landed five goals.
