Party has lost its way
What's happened to the once fine Liberal Party founded by Robert Menzies? He'd be ashamed of the bullies who denigrate, demean and verbally besmirch anyone who doesn't agree with them.

The Liberal Party now has a leader whose 'church-Christianity' belongs to the same man whose sovereign borders policy locked desperate refugees in a hell-hole and still prevents them receiving medical attention or becoming useful citizens of this country like thousands before them.
The behaviour of the once-proud Country/National Party is no better. I exempt Mark Byatt, an honourable man who served Wodonga well as a citizen and councillor and will one day be a fine Independent politician.
In the Indi electorate letterbox drops pamphlets printed in the Liberal Party's name are aimed at destroying the candidacy of a well-educated, respected and politically savvy woman standing as an Independent, Helen Haines. It is authored by 'Simon Frost for the Liberal Party of Australia, Victoria Division' and claims a vote for the Indi Independent is a vote for Labor. Frost is so ignorant he doesn't know records prove the outgoing Indi member voted for more than 90 per cent of the Liberal Party's legislation.
The Independents in Parliament have shown the thinking electorate that grass-roots elected candidates can be more effective than political parties, particularly the Liberal Party which bullied its own strong women so badly two became Independents.
I remind Simon Frost it was not a Labor, but a Victorian Liberal Party Premier who sold many efficient government owned services such as electricity, gas, transport, health, etc on the basis that private enterprise could do it more efficiently and cheaply. It caused thousands of public servants, including teachers and nurses, to lose their jobs and led to today's high costs of essential services, the casualisation of the workforce, the shortage of skilled labour, financial suffering and much of the division of society into rich and poor.
These costly Liberal Party Indi letterbox drops must embarrass the Party's local candidate, Steve Martin, who seems a decent type of man, for it is he who will 'cop' the inevitable backlash.
Jean Whitla, OAM, Wodonga
Our choices are poor
Don't you love elections, one political party trying to outdo the other in conning voters, a game of con artists.
What are the choices: the Liberals who have ruined the health system getting us out of Labor's debt. Labor, who would bankrupt Australia with their policies. The Greens whose idiotic policies would decimate Australia. And the independents, who are all over the spectrum. When we add a preferential voting system that never gives a true result and can be rorted at will we have a wonderful election coming up. I guess this is insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a good result.
