Labor candidate for Indi Eric Kerr made the announcement in Wodonga on Monday with the money going towards a commercial kitchen training facility and a supported living centre for students with disability.
And despite contesting a seat which hasn't been Labor for 91 years, Mr Kerr said irregardless of the local outcome on May 18 he will see the project through if Bill Shorten gets elected.
"There are a lot of Labor voters out there who aren't happy with things around our electorate," he said.
"This is something that is really great for local students and something I will make sure happens. TAFE is Labor's bread and butter."
Mr Kerr said Labor will provide $1.3 million to establish a new retail cafeteria and catering service for local businesses.
The upgrade will involve refurbishment of the existing cafeteria, food preparation and dining areas to convert the space to include multi-disciplinary learning areas, front of house and commercial kitchen training spaces.
The facility will allow students doing cookery, hospitality, events and business subjects to work in a practical environment.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The remaining $100,000 will go towards interior design students redesigning current TAFE residences into an independent supported living centre for students with a disability.
Wodonga TAFE acting chief executive Phil Patterson welcomed the election promise and said their ageing facilities is an ongoing challenge.
"Certainly our facilities is something which is challenging in their age and we need to continue the reinvestment in our programs but also in our facilities," he said.
"What we are seeing here is two really unique investments in the TAFE which really supports students with their experiential learning."
"The combined kitchen certainly allows students to participate in the kitchen area but also combined with a commercial kitchen.
"The other program which is around disability students is really about the equity TAFE plays in our community. I think TAFE needs to be lifted in its social standing and I would like to see investment in TAFE continue."
