Dean Andrew Brennick was there to plead guilty to being a never licenced person found driving on a road.
This was, police told Albury Local Court, the eighth time he had been charged with unlicensed or disqualified driving.
"Why don't you get a licence?" an incredulous magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim asked Brennick.
"It's cost you a lot more in fines than if you had applied for a licence and paid for a licence."
Brennick muttered a response, then was asked by Mr Abdul-Karim if he had anything else to say.
"Nothing to talk about," he replied.
He was put on a community corrections order, fined $220 and disqualified from obtaining a licence for four months.
