Farrer MP Sussan Ley made the $7.9 million Davey Road funding announcement just days after her government committed $64 million to building an overpass at the McKoy Street intersection with the Hume Freeway.
"During an election period money comes to regional areas," Ms Ley said.
"I'm fighting for my fair share, but this project genuinely was allocated through our heavy vehicle safety and productivity program some years ago.
"The condition of that program was the state government had matching funds, we thought they did, but they didn't.
"I argued we keep that money on stand-by for when NSW comes to the party and they have."
An Albury Council representative didn't attend the announcement, but general manager Frank Zaknich said it looked forward to working with the next federal government to re-establish a 50 per cent contribution toward the Davey Road interchange southern ramps.
"This will complement funding already committed by the NSW Government through its Growing Local Economies Program," he said.
"Enabling infrastructure to Nexus is critical to maximising the future growth and development of the precinct and will support the achievement of our vision to create more than 9000 direct and indirect jobs and drive significant growth in the regional economy."
Albury trucking identity Doug McMillan said a full diamond interchange at Davey Road should have been part of the original construction of the internal freeway.
"We really need access to these industrial areas and we don't want to drive where cars are," he said.
"It will be a safer interchange for sure."
Kellie Rees from the nearby Ettamogah Rail Hub said the upgrade was sorely needed in the area.
"Year on year we are increasing with trucks coming in and out of Nexus, the Ettamogah site, and other businesses including Norske Skog paper mill," she said.
