Quercus Beechworth delivers a wide range of services to the local community, including providing support to vulnerable people through their community food program and regular community sharing feasts.
Manager Jude Doughty said the money will enable them to offer a "substantial community project".
"It is absolutely wonderful news to hear Quercus is being recognised for the work we do in the Beechworth community," he said.
"It is a great opportunity for us to go back to the community and see what is needed and give them a voice.
"We want to ensure our community is well informed, well connected and are a strong community."
Ms Doughty said any extra funding is "a welcome announcement".
MORE FEDERAL ELECTION NEWS:
"$16,000 would definitely allow us to put some extra programs in place for community and the beauty of it is that it goes directly back to the Beechworth community," she said.
Labor candidate for Indi Eric Kerr said there is a "huge disparity between rich and poor" in regional Victoria.
"The charities and not-for-profits that do this kind of work are increasingly stretched and need more resources," he said.
"We realise investing in communities where people are doing it tough is important.
"When someone is struggling it affects the whole community it ripples through."
Mr Kerr said a Labor government will provide $40 million over four years to emergency relief organisations across the country, including $32,000 for organisations in Indi. Mansfield and District Welfare Group will also receive $16,000.
"Many vulnerable people in Indi are falling through the cracks. Labor will make sure our not-for-profits have the resources they need to support our fellow Australians," Mr Kerr said.
