Brodie Tyson suffered a fractured vertebrae and three bulging discs in his neck in the incident at Yarrawonga on May 4.
Wodonga player Jordan O'Connor received a yellow card and was reported for intentionally striking.
The young Pigeon said he immediately knew he was seriously injured.
"I tried to get up and I couldn't really walk because my legs were like jelly, so I knew something was wrong," he said. "I tried to walk by myself and stay out on the field and the trainers said to me 'Nah, you're done.'
"I suffered concussion but by the Sunday most of what happened had come back to me."

- Brodie Tyson
Tyson has been ruled out from playing again this season but he returned to his employment as an apprentice plumber on Monday.
"I'm pretty disappointed and shattered really that I can't play," he said.
"It's my first season at the club and I'm missing out for the rest of the year.
"I would like to thank everyone at the footy club.
"The support and well wishes I have received since I was injured has been amazing."
Tyson said while it was a disappointing incident, he was satisfied with the outcome at the tribunal.
"I'm happy with the penalty that he received at the tribunal," Tyson said.
O'Connor will miss the remainder of the home and away season.
But he will be eligible to play finals.
The Bulldogs sit sixth with a 3-2-1 record after six rounds.
They trail fifth-placed Albury by percentage.
