Detective Inspector Winston Woodward said Tuesday's search near the Noreuil Park boat ramp would be the last, but police would still investigate any further information which came to light.
Tuesday's operation unearthed clothing, a watch and a bone.
The clothes were shown to a family member, and were found to be unlinked, and the bone was determined to be from an animal.
Detective Inspector Woodward said it was sad there was no closure for his friends and family.
"At this stage, no more searches will be conducted," he said.
"Several have been (conducted).
"Members of the public who use that waterway regularly, please keep an eye out for us."
Detective Inspector Woodward said he had attended previous missing person cases in creeks and rivers where bodies were never recovered by search crews.
"Unfortunately it is one of those mysteries at the moment in relation to Mr Pandit," he said.
"I feel for his family.
"I feel for his friends."
Tuesday's search involved police, the SES and volunteers from the Albury and Border Rescue Squad.
Detective Inspector Woodward said about 700 metres of the river were scoured with no sign of the 21-year-old.
"I believe he has drowned in the river," he said.
"There is nothing at this time which would point us to believe that anything suspicious has taken place."
