Clinton Kirley has admitted in Albury Local Court that, as put by defence solicitor Mark Cronin as a "very apt description", he "lost it".
The 24-year-old father of two young children pleaded guilty this week to intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage property.
Damage to the victim's car included dents in the bonnet and the front section of the roof.
Mr Cronin said what had contributed to Kirley's out-of-character behaviour was he was working very long hours during the week, then had the care of his children at the weekend while his partner worked part-time.
"He was frazzled," he said.

But magistrate Rodney Brender said he had found there were "no extenuating circumstances" attached to Kirley's behaviour.
"This type of conduct is obviously completely unacceptable to the community and needs to be strongly denounced," Mr Brender said.
The court was told the incident took place on March 11. About 2pm, the victim was driving her car through the Five Ways intersection, heading south on to Mate Street, North Albury.
In her rear-vision mirror she saw a Ford Territory travelling close to her car.
The Territory, driven by Kirley, overtook her then cut back in front of her, causing her to brake harshly.
As the victim approached the Fallon Street intersection in the right-hand lane, she tried to overtake the Territory.
Kirley again cut in front of her, stopped, got out and ran towards her car.
"Feeling scared, the victim has quickly locked her door," police said.
"The male driver has then leapt onto bonnet of the victim's vehicle, kicked the front windscreen, causing it to smash, and then ran back towards the Ford Territory and driven away," police said.
Mr Brender convicted Kirley and placed him on a 12-month community correction order.
