Trailing by six at the final change, the visitors regrouped superbly with best-on-court Kyra Hunt leading the way.
Grace Patterson also played well.
Coach Kim Michelini was delighted with the win.
"I said to the girls (at three-quarter time) that we just had to dig deeper and we had the versatility coming off the bench and everyone wanted to be there in the dying minutes," Michelini said.
"We had to keep our composure, they had to work hard for every single ball and we just had to keep our bodies upright and keep possession of the ball, so possession was the major thing."
Ellen Cook was Tallangatta's best player.
"They (O and K) just kept chipping away, we really rushed it in that last 10 minutes and credit to our girls, they fought really hard," Tallangatta coach Kylie Murphy said.
Ovens and King defeated Hume by one goal last season.
