More than 1600 people visited Albury Civic or North Albury fire stations during Saturday's open days to learn about the realities of firefighting.

Albury Captain John Vanderven said it was an amazing turn out, with children and those young at heart flocking to the equipment.

"We had people streaming through the door all day and we were able to pass on some valuable safety tips," he said.
"The biggest thing for us if fire prevention so if we can educate people to do small things to help prevent fires or save lives like having working smoke alarms, that's important."
Mr Vanderven said the Rural Fire Service, Country Fire Authority, Ambulance Victoria and the Albury and Border Rescue Squad also attended the open day to answer questions.
