Development out of place
As the owner of a house on David Street, in the block bounded by North Street, Park Ave and Bellevue Street, you can imagine my shock and disbelief to receive in my letter box recently a note from Albury Council informing me that a two-storey, four-unit monstrosity was proposed to be built one house away from my residence.

This area consists of single-storey, family houses in a delightful tree-lined environment. Many are newly renovated and the owners house proud. "Albury's Paris".
Now on one house block a developer is proposing to build four small two-storey units with balconies that overlook neighbouring backyards and gardens. H
I am sure that his may be his idea of appropriate development but I'm sure that is not true of the local residents.
The ambience and environment of this area will be changed forever by a development for a developer who will no doubt not be living in this area.
This provides the perfect opportunity for Council to demonstrate that it is working for the residents and citizens of our city.

Where was Bill?
As a new member of the 'Orange Army' I was very impressed with the effort that our outgoing member for Indi Cathy McGowan made to help Helen Haines get elected.
No-one worked harder on Helen's campaign than Cathy despite the fact that she could have simply handed the baton to Helen and said "It's up to you". Instead, it was amazing to see the energy, enthusiasm and the time that she contributed. Thank you Cathy.
On the other side, I was also impressed by the huge effort made by Jacob Mildren. Jacob is in his mid-20s and he too did everything possible to try to get the Liberal Steve Martin elected. That was not to be, but Jacob is to be commended for doing his very best for something about which he is clearly passionate.
There is a third person who deserves a mention and that is our Liberal member for Benambra, Bill Tilley. As far as I am aware, Bill was never seen at any stage of the election campaign.
I would have thought that he would be like Cathy and Jacob and do whatever he could to help his colleague Steve Martin get elected. I asked Jacob where Bill was, and Jacob said that for the week of the election he was on holidays and for the prior period he had been 'working hard'.
It is a matter of astonishment to me that the electors of Benambra forego effective representation by continuing to elect Bill Tilley time after time.
