Candidate Eric Kerr sits third behind Helen Haines and Steve Martin with just postal votes left to count, ahead of the Nationals.
"We are consistently beating them and keeping the Coalition vote down," he said
"To us this is a great result and goes to show that even when our opponents throw piles of money and deceptive tricks at this election, we can still hold our own on a shoestring budget and importantly, with honourable, honest and hard work campaigning.
"I have called Helen to congratulate her and her team on their efforts and look forward to working beside them to better this electorate with community."
He said there was still work to do in Indi and Labor would continue to lead the fight.
