The blame is shared
I sincerely believe Bill Shorten and the Labor party would have won the federal election if not for two divisive underhanded elements.

Part of the blame rests with Bob Brown and his misguided camel train of anti Adani mine, tree-hugging cohorts.
The hide of them coming up from leafy green Tasmania to drought and unemployment devastated remote small Queensland towns telling the struggling locals how to live and re-mediate their lives and the lives of their younger generation, How arrogant and narcissistic of Brown and those with him.
Secondly, Clive Palmer with his tens of millions of dollars embellished facts.
Mr Shorten seems like a very sincere fellow who fights for the battler. I wish him and his family all the best for the future. He is a fighter for the people thus he will bounce back in some useful capacity wiser and stronger.
I hope that the real winner out of the federal election - regardless of who you voted for - is our wonderful country and all Australians.

Crushing depot concern
What a fantastic article in Saturday's Border Mail ('Grocery plan lacks sense', May 18).
The Baranduda supermarket issue was discussed at the Wodonga Council meeting on May 13. The other issue that was discussed was the industrial site in Baranduda where an application for a crushing depot has been proposed.
The council meeting was a disgrace as the members of the council did not even discuss the Issues that had been raised by objectors regarding the site. The objectors know the site is "industrial', and know there is landscaping works to be done which is not the issue. The issue is asbestos.
The crushing depot proposed virtually next to Landmark in Baranduda crushes concrete and old concrete has asbestos in it.. With the wind blowing, dust is likely to end up as far up as Camortom Park, Valley Views Estate and Killara.
These are all residential estates with hundreds of homes established on them. And we all know what it is that asbestos does, it kills.
Well done to Councillor Ron Mildren. It was great to see you sticking up for what you believe in and a councillor with transparency.

Truth a thing of the past
Who would have thought that our Prime Minister and Treasurer would tell a lie regarding the $1080 tax rebate to low income earners being paid this tax year. Shock, horror.
Can anybody tell me, when was the last time that any politician from any political party actually told the whole truth? Any wonder when we have the likes of Clive Palmer spewing out rubbish, and Fraser Anning, what can I say about him.
