Jessie Lee Crookshanks appeared before the Wodonga Magistrates Court on Tuesday after multiple alleged incidents in February and March.
Crookshanks is in custody and appeared before the court via video link.
The court heard the 21-year-old had been at the woman's home on March 1 when the pair got into an argument.
Crookshanks allegedly started slamming doors and the woman told him to stop.
It's alleged he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and said "I will give you something to call about" while she was on the phone.
It's alleged Crookshanks held the knife against the victim's throat.
He told her she had better not be on the phone to police.
Crookshanks allegedly kicked her in the back, causing her to fall down a flight of stairs.
When the police were called, Crookshanks fled over a back fence in a bid to avoid arrest.
The court heard he attended the woman's home the following day and tried to stay the night.
He allegedly left with her bank card, jewellery and a proof of age card, and said "good luck getting your stuff back".
