Multi-talented McCowan has decided to try her hand at netball and can be found under the ring every Saturday for the Bulldog's A-grade side.
It comes after the guard decided last month to stand down from the Bandits for the remainder of the inaugural NBL1 season.
The idea of trying her hand at something new appealed to McCowan, who after starting the first couple of rounds in her third year with the Bandits, is now in her first season with the Bulldog's.
"I've played basketball my whole life, so walking away wasn't an easy decision," McCowan said.
"The Bandits will always be close to me because of my dad (Allen McCowan).
"I haven't completely walked away from them and closed the door.
"I just wanted to try something different, because I've played basketball for so many years.
"I'll always love playing basketball, but I'm really enjoying playing netball."
Work and study were also contributing factors which made it difficult for McCowan to fully commit to the expectations of basketball at a high level.
The Bandits, under new coach and Australian basketball icon Lauren Jackson, have started their season strongly with six wins and three losses.
Also in sport:
McCowan's new club Thurgoona have also had a successful jump out of the blocks, currently sitting on top of the Tallangatta league netball ladder with six wins after six rounds.
Their new goal shooter has assisted in the side's early victories, racking up a combined total of 81 goals in her first four games with the club.
While McCowan has played netball previously, she said it was the connection to friends at Thurgoona and the culture attached to the sport which lured her out to the Tallangatta league side.
"The girls are all really great and so is the culture around the club," McCowan said.
"We are all getting along really well, which helps.
"We're currently undefeated at the moment, so hopefully it stays that way.
"The rest of the season should be good, and hopefully I enjoy netball too much to stop."
While netball is McCowan's sport of choice for the time being, she said she would never rule out returning to the basketball court for the Bandits in the future.
"Who knows what I'll do," she said.
Thurgoona will take on Dederang Mt Beauty in Thurgoona for a round seven showdown this weekend, with McCowan ready to line up in goals.
