But evidently one man's miracle is another's disaster, as the return of the "Coal"-ition government puts an end to our chance of stopping disastrous climate change that will continue to be caused by the burning of more coal.
As a scientist and atheist I don't believe in miracles, and in this case neither did Morrison, unless he gambled on the $33 billion added to the share values of banks and mining companies on Monday, for a small investment of $80 million from one of the government's mining mates.
But that cash bonus isn't going to save them from the fires and droughts, floods and cyclones that will take our lives and those of our children; now that would take a miracle.

For seven months I have been trying to deal with Telstra. This company is supposed to be part of what is a service industry.
I found their call centre to be of no help so I went to the shop in Dean Street, where I was still not able to get any help and so I have cancelled the direct debit from my bank account.
Some of you might say, "go to Optus or some other" but Telstra is the only one in our area.
And why can't they do something about those scam callers telling me that they are the NBN. I don't have NBN and nor am I likely to get it.

I was working, actually
It is disappointing in this day and age that there are still critics that do not fully understand the differences between state and federal government ('Where was Bill', The Border Mail letters, May 21). This serves to lead some to make poor, ill-informed statements believing it to be fact.
Some notes for the letter writer, Bruce Keys of Wodonga.
I am a Victorian state politician, this was a federal election. I was not in caretaker mode. My office and I continued to work for the Parliament of Victoria. I work for the people of Benambra, and unlike the retired former member for Indi, I was required to perform duties for that electorate.
A number of the federal Coalition's important election commitments here in Indi came out of work done in my office. We worked closely and cohesively with Steve Martin and his team to secure funding for projects that the state government had ignored.
These are important projects to real people - the quiet Australians, not pie-in-the-sky thought bubbles that are never tested nor explored in any depth. Projects that can never be delivered by an independent.
Steve Martin ran a strong campaign and had my full support. He didn't need me standing on the sidelines muddying the water or looking like some puppet master.
I congratulate Dr Haines on her election, and I hope that she will be working for all the people of Indi, not just those who voted for her.
The people for Benambra vote for me because they know I care about them and this area but I represent all of the people in the electorate, not just those that agree with me.
