Andrew Houlihan, left without a working navigation aid, ploughed into a large rock in thick dust "and hit the ground very hard".
"I managed to ride the remaining 40 kilometres at close to walking pace and then another 25km back to the bivouac," he wrote from Greece.
"It was quite difficult with no one to follow, no navigation to use and in a fair bit of discomfort."

Rally results overnight on Friday indicated Houlihan did not start the first run on day four and sat in 120th position overall after that day's racing.
Earlier rounds of the rally had been far more positive, with the Border rider placing 27th in the 800 metre prologue, which included boggy mud and "many vertical cliffs to plunge over if you misjudged any corners".
Day two, featuring legs of 160km and 130km, saw Houlihan move to 14th position in the FIM European Championship class and 23rd overall.
He was pleased with his first special stage and although slower in the second stage had almost perfect navigation.
His equipment problems occurred early on day three, leaving him unable to navigate.
"I waited for the next rider and tagged along behind him and he quickly got us lost," Houlihan said.
"I finished the first stage in 26th position and the second in 60th, which gave me an overall of 43rd for the day."
