Autobarn is presently based in Young Street, but a development application has been lodged with Albury Council to build a "vehicle repair station" incorporating four fitting bays, car part sales area, loading zone and associated support areas including reception on the corner of Borella Road and Drome Street.

A carparking area will be accessed from the adjoining carpark in Bunnings, which opened early last year after also previously being located on Young Street.

The plans were submitted to council by Barker Construction on behalf of Autobarn, which has been at its present site for more than a decade.

Subject to council approval, Autobarn will be the latest business to move to the area off the back of the Bunnings relocation.

McDonald's, Total Tools and another car-related business, Auto One, have been established in recent times.

The BP service station in Drome Street recently sold for $4.2 million.

"The proposal incorporates high-quality building presentation, landscaped setbacks and an integrated overall approach to site development, including a land use that is permissible and desirable in the location," the Autobarn development application states.

"Signage proposed on the buildings and within the site is appropriate for the use and setting of the site and consistent with nearby commercial development.

"(The statement of environmental effects) has assessed the potential impacts arising from the proposal on surrounding properties including traffic, access and parking, noise, visual amenity, and waste and water management."

Proposed hours of operation are between 6.30am and 9pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm Saturday, and 7am to 6pm Sunday.

Car service works will not commence until 7am and a minimum two staff starts will be on site in the hours of operation.

The proposed site is presently vacant.
