But residents and visitors to the town will have to wait a little while for the art to come to life, with weather conditions forcing the anticipated start of painting back to next autumn.
Mr Bowtell, who was the artist behind the St James silo art, has also created large-scale murals in Mansfield, Mohyu, Benalla and Winton.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Project chair Mary Ann Morgan said Mr Bowtell was selected after an exhaustive process.
"He understands the rural way of life and has a great can-do attitude, which is consistent with the project," Ms Morgan said.
She also said the team loved Mr Bowtell's St James murals.
With Mr Bowtell signed on, the team is now looking to finalising the concept for the mural in collaboration with him.
But Mr Bowtell will not start painting until next autumn, because dry and still conditions are required and the work cannot take place during harvest.
Ms Morgan said Mr Bowtell also believed autumn was the best time of year to paint.
Mr Bowtell will visit Colbinabbin next Saturday to meet the community and get a feel for the place.
He will also have access to the town's historical society's material for inspiration.
Ms Morgan said history was a strong element in the community's feedback.
A team from the Colbinabbin community launched a bid to reinvigorate the town through silo art last August.
In October, they won a $112,500 grant through the state government's Pick My Project program, which invited Victorians to vote on the projects they wanted to see realised.
The project must be completed by mid-April next year.
