Families play a vital role in the lives of children and also the community.
During the recent National Families Week, families were encouraged to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.
The enduring theme 'Stronger Families, Stronger Communities', highlighted the important role that families play in our communities and that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.
Each year, National Families Week is a time to think about what individuals and organisations can do in their local area to enhance the wellbeing of children and families and to make all families stronger.
It is also an opportunity to encourage families to engage with and strengthen their communities.
Dr Brian Babington, chief executive officer at Families Australia said, "Families are the most important building block of communities, societies and nations.
"I believe strongly that we need to think more about the value of families and do more to support our and others' families, whatever form they take. What does your family mean to you? What do you give to and get from your family?
"At times family life can undoubtedly be challenging, but families are the best places to share and to be understood. National Families Week is a great opportunity to pause and take stock of how we can all work for greater family wellbeing."
Each year, more than 100,000 people and hundreds of organisations celebrate National Families Week, which is timed to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Families.
This day is observed by the United Nations to mark the importance that the international community places on families as the most fundamental units of society, as well as to show concern about their situation in many parts of the world.
Organisations, schools, councils, companies and individuals are encouraged to celebrate families any time of the year; make contact with your extended family and friends, or share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community.
Take an extra 15 minutes a day to talk, listen and connect within your family, discuss as a family about things that make your family strong and things that can be worked on, have a family movie marathon or spend some quality time together.
