The Rustic Bus project hopes to give vulnerable families and visitors to the area holidays to remember.
Rachael Gadd said some alarming figures encouraged her to give back to her local community.
"In the North East there are 2078 single parent families with children under the age of 15 years and or dependent students and the average individual income is $47,692 per year," she said.
"Many refugees moving to Albury-Wodonga are single women with dependent children - let's do the maths. How many of these people can afford to take their families on a holiday? How many of them really need a break?
"We just want to give back to the local community and improve tourism and economic development in some of the shires which don't get enough attention."
Rachael said the beauty of the bus was that it can go anywhere.
"It gives you access to reserves which you can't normally access without a tent or caravan," she said.
"So for those people who can't afford that this gives them an opportunity to explore our local nature reserves and have a holiday."
The bus will have a double bedroom, bunk beds, a small lounge room and kitchen and a fully functioning bathroom.

There will also be solar panels on the roof.
Ms Gadd has received $5000 towards the project through the Ignite Good crowdfunding competition sponsored by Tourism Holdings Limited and Start Some Good.
"But there's a catch," she said.
"This funding will only be granted if the remaining $15,000 can be raised through a Start Some Good crowdfunding campaign.
"This is an all or nothing campaign - if we don't reach the target the pledges will be returned and the $5000 is gone too.
"The minimum pledge is $10, that's only the price of two coffees to help a vulnerable family."
Ms Gadd is hosting The Rustic Bus Gathering on Sunday, June 2 to start the conversation.
The gathering is from 4-7pm at the Nicola Teek Building, Banool Rd, Tallangatta.
Entry is free and bookings are required through The Rustic Bus Facebook page.
The 30-day campaign starts on Thursday, May 30 and pledges can be made at startsomegood.com/therusticbus from that date.
