It was more than just the burgers that were flaming on Saturday morning when the McDonald's sign on the Hume Freeway at Glenrowan caught fire.

Passers-by stopped and pulled out their mobile phones at about 10.30am when they saw smoke coming from the iconic golden arches.
Wangaratta Fire Brigade senior station officer Greg Mitchell said the fire was caused by a possible electrical fault and caused a grassfire to spread about 10 metres around the sign, including to a nearby tree.
"It was brought under control quickly then the McDonald's staff and BP staff evacuated efficiently and shut down all their systems," he said.
"No one was hurt and we tried to get the businesses back up and running as soon as it was safe."
Two trucks each from Wangaratta and Glenrowan attended the fire on the northbound side of the freeway and contained it to the small area, but the golden sign was gutted.
