There was only one goal in it at the first break between the top two sides, before the Roos put their foot down to take the win at home 61-35.
Olivia Sinclair was a powerhouse in the midcourt for Corowa, while Jess Bice and Sophie Hanrahan also worked tirelessly in goals and defence.
Defender Sarah Meredith and shooter Sarah Senini were among the best for the visitors.
"Lavington have been a powerhouse in the competition for so long and we knew we were going to have a tough task ahead of us," Corowa Rutherglen coach Georgie Bruce said.
"We had to play four solid quarters and be true to our game, and we were.
"It worked out pretty well for us in the end."
The win takes the Roos to seven wins from seven games.
In other Ovens and Murray netball games during the weekend, the Wodonga Raiders kept themselves in the top five after a 17 goal win against North Albury.
Shaylah House shot 24 goals for the Raiders, while Kirby Hilton and Georgie Attree were strong for the Hoppers.
In Myrtleford, the Tigers were too good for the Saints, clenching a 10 goal win.
Jess Fisher Curnow shot with incredible accuracy to claim 29 goals from 30 attempts, while Sophie Cappellari was solid for the Saints in defence.
Wangaratta downed the Wodonga Bulldogs at home by 31 goals.
Isabelle Byrne and Amanda Umanski were the best for the black and white, while Laura Collins and Maddie McFarlane led the way for the Bulldogs.
In the final game, Yarrawonga notched up their fourth win of the season against the Wangaratta Rovers.
A big third quarter from the Pigeons saw them deliver a 26 goal win, with Bridget Cassar shooting 42 goals for the home side.
Briony Simpson and Ainslee Dowling impressed on the court for the Wang Rovers.
