Fresh from another thumping win in last weekend's election, Ms Ley replaces Melissa Price in a ministerial reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
Ms Ley, now one of seven women in senior roles, had been forced to quit as health minister in early 2017 under then prime minister Malcolm Turnbull over a political expenses scandal.
