Having moved the business six months ago to premises formerly occupied by Early Bird Cafe, Lisa said she now offered savoury lunch options.

Lisa said she had added soup and nourish bowls to their vegan-friendly offerings to coincide with the cooler weather.

She said soups had included spiced sweet potato; lentil; and creamy tomato and basil.

"We offer plant-based dishes with no meat or gluten," she said.

"We don't have any gluten in the kitchen at all, which makes it easy for people who have Coeliac disease or are on a gluten-free diet."

After a 10-year teaching career, Lisa started Nine Canaries to supply vegan-friendly raw desserts - free of refined sugars, dairy, soy and gluten - to Border customers.

The inspiration behind the business name came from a birthday gift from Lisa's husband Ben and their children Ethan, 16, and Alex, 14, of nine canaries.

Nine Canaries uses Mansfield Coffee Merchant beans.

Mum was always baking sweets. I remember her going to milk the cow and I'd climb up to the cupboards and try out different things in the kitchen. They never worked out but it showed I was experimenting even back then!
