God worth believing in
I write in reply, to the five-year-old Pete Pattenden ('Issy, keep it to yourself', The Border Mail, May 27). Apparently Jesus and disciples got into trouble too, for picking corn as they moved through a field and rubbing it in their hand on the Sabbath. Harsh. Hope it was a nice orange Pete had.

As to Pete's eloquent question, "am I bound for eternity to stand in a lake of fire in pain and misery in that mythical place of damnation called hell?" The Bible never says so. Rather, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."
And seeing we all die, the trust and hope in this promise can lead to getting to know a personal, good and kind Creator God worth believing in, whose character is so wrongly represented by those threats of torture.

Public rave does no good
I write regarding the letter from Father Peter Macleod-Miller, titled 'Far from a miracle' and published on May 25.
I found the content of the letter disturbing, and then I saw it was written by a priest. I think you, Peter, are a poor representative of Christianity and should try reading your bible. God does not hate homosexuals. God loves all of us and wants all of us to ask for forgiveness for our wrong doings.
Your Christian-bashing rant does nothing to advance religious freedom. If you have a problem with the Anglican hierarchy, then take it up with them, not in an angry public rave.
Christians are instructed to submit to God and not be governed by their own whims and desires. You are causing conflict within the church. The bible identifies conflicts in the church as being caused by pride and self-elevation. Perhaps, Peter, you need to take time out to re-evaluate your vows.

Lessons for the Libs
Greg Mirabella's comments in The Border Mail ('Lib says row costly in Indi', May 25) should not be swept under the carpet.
Playing the blame game on the internal workings on his own Liberal party for the loss of Indi now for the history-making third time to an Independent. At one stage Mr Mirabella was himself contemplating a shot at Liberal endorsement for Indi. Just maybe this a case of sour grapes?
Will you ever face facts that there is no place in true Liberal politics for members of Parliament to indulge in their own self-ego, disregarding the wishes of the electors.
Sophie Mirabella championed her own agenda that she always knew best, without community consultation. History was made in Wangaratta with an unprecedent crowded rally against Sophie for not supporting then Liberal leader Brendan Nelson in Parliament for the first Sorry Day. This and dozens of other episodes finally made Sophie unelectable twice in succession.
