Beyond Housing said the Private Rental Assistance Program, which the Victorian government recommitted to in this week's budget, helped the organisation use the rental market to stop people becoming homeless.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Chief executive Celia Adams said from the program's inception to the end of April, 478 people had been helped in the Ovens Murray region and 657 people in the Goulburn catchment.
Many of those assisted had experienced family violence.
Ms Adams said the government's commitment would help support vulnerable women and children "and alleviate the risk of them having to choose between going homeless or returning to their abusers".
"We know that this program is working," she said.
