The former Magpies and Albury-Wodonga Spitfires star commenced treatment in Melbourne last week and it has prompted a response from back home.
Maggs was a long-standing member of many other Albury-Wodonga sporting communities, including cricket and golf.
Albury Magpies Hockey Club has organised a major auction and raffle in support of Maggs and his family.
A major auction, silent auction and raffles will take place on the night, with all proceeds to assist the much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend.
Magpies president Darryl Lavis has been blown away by the support so far.
"We figure one of the stresses of going through treatment is not working and therefore not getting paid," Lavis said.
"We can't help with treatment or anything like that, but we can help with the money.
"We thought we'd jump straight on and try to go as big as we can and raise as much as we can for him."

Lavis believes a lot of people in the community can relate to Maggs' situation, hence the generosity.
"There's a lot of people in and around the sporting community in the same situation with young families who are newly-married and have a mortgage and that sort of thing," he said.
"From the feedback so far, everyone on board understands the situation and feels for them, but wants to help them through.
"Probably the biggest and best thing we've seen is how much people want to help the family get through the other side of it.
"It's not just Andrew, it's the four of them that are affected, as well as his parents and brothers."
On top of the fundraising efforts, Lavis revealed a number of people have offered to assist the Maggs family with meals and other domestic duties.
"Andrew's dad, Ross, was involved with Hume Bank, so they're getting behind it as well, Lavis added.
"His initial treatment will be in Melbourne, but he's potentially going to move back to Albury with the family."
The major auction and raffle will be held at Albury's Commercial Club on Saturday, July 20.
"Roughly 35 per cent of the tickets have sold and there has been plenty of interest on Facebook," Lavis said.
"It's a pretty good response considering we have 500 tickets."
Tickets are $60 per person and include finger food, live music, entry to the cocktail party, as well as a donation towards the event.
