Bonat hasn't played since last year's first semi-final as he battles an Achilles complaint, which is related to a horror work accident, in which he gashed his leg, just over two years ago.
"It was feeling good, I did start running and I probably got a little excited and pushed it a little hard and then it flared up," he said.
"I've just got to be patient and do what the physio says as opposed to what I think I should do."

The Pigeons host Albury on Saturday as they try to break an 11-match losing streak to the premiers.
Yarrawonga's last win was in the 2013 grand final, the penultimate clash in the six straight deciders.
"You need to play 100 minutes, as well as creating chances to score, you have to kick your goals," Bonat said.
Meanwhile, hard-working Pigeons' midfielder Matt Gorman will play his 100th game.
