A Wangaratta driver's car was impounded on Sunday as part of Victoria Police's long weekend traffic blitz.

The 22-year-old man was unlicensed when intercepted in his friend's car in Ryley Street just before 3pm.
Police said the vehicle had false plates and the driver failed a roadside drug test.

The car was impounded with towing costs of $1625 and the driver is expected to be charged with unlicensed driving and numerous other traffic offences.
Operation Regal began on Friday and continues until 11.59pm Monday, June 10.
It has focused on impaired driving, increased traffic on rural roads, towing trailers and caravans, and trail bike riding in state forests and parks.
