Marion Derckx, who began her role officially in February, accepted an invitation from the Uiver Memorial Community Trust to support its work on the Douglas DC-2 aeroplane that represents the Uiver air rescue of 1934.
The original Dutch KLM airliner made a forced landing guided by car headlights.

"This is the story of citizens who found themselves in a position to prevent a disaster and turned themselves, probably to their own surprise, into heroes," Ms Derckx said.
"Definitely an example for every human being, a story that deserves to be told over and over again.
"I am grateful to the UMCT for keeping the memory of the Uiver story alive through the restoration of the DC-2 and I am proud to become their co-patron."
