The mid-season bye came at the wrong time, with both sides producing stunning performances beforehand.

Boomers took down last year's cup finalists Wangaratta 2-0 at home, while Melrose jagged a 1-1 draw with league leaders Albury United.

Melrose coach Adam Waters is upbeat about his side's chances against Boomers on the weekend, with the two previous meetings split between the sides.

"The group feeling is good, I think the first half of the year has been a really good confidence boost for everyone of the girls and has brought them closer together," Waters said.

"Personally, I think every game we play is a winnable game, this weekend is no different.

"We are focused on our game plans for the second half of the season and less on other teams, but if we keep our form moving forward we should get over the line."

Waters admitted his side must be more clinical in front of goal for the second half of the season heading into cup finals.

"I feel the first two games against Boomers we have been pretty consistent all over the park, we just lack finishing," he said.

"That's the main thing we need to focus on.

"Our defence is looking solid and stats show we are defensively doing okay (24 goals against).

"I think this weekend we will be looking to attack and convert chances"

In the weekend's other senior women's game, Wangaratta takes on Albury United at Willow Park in a top-of-the-table clash.

Both St Pats and Albury City have the bye.
